Medication-assisted treatment is available across Iowa through multiple types of providers. Office-based opioid treatment — primarily buprenorphine (Suboxone) prescribed by physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants — is the most accessible form of MAT and has expanded dramatically since 2023 when federal restrictions on buprenorphine prescribing were loosened.
