There is an argument for being away from home during treatment. Research has shown that people can be distracted by family dynamics during treatment. Also, being at home leaves the client vulnerable to friends and acquaintances that were part of a client’s substance abuse history. Drug and alcohol treatment requires quiet, reflective time to engage in an honest review of one’s emotional life.
